Metropolitan Asian Family Services (MAFS)/UMAS is a not-for-profit Tax-Exempt 501 © (3) multi-cultural organization in 1993 with a mission to provide comprehensive and integrated services to the immigrant population of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lankan and East European communities facing linguistic and cultural barriers. MAFS/UMAS is a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic organization and has, at its core, a commitment to educate, counsel and assist and empower immigrants to become a productive member of American Society.

Starting from Des Plaines office in 1992, our agency has now expanded its services to seven fully equipped senior centers strategically located in Chicago, Niles/Des Plaines, Roselle/Schaumburg, Carol Stream, Naperville, and most recently opened centers in Algonquin and Vernon Hills. These centers are accessible to the targeted population currently serving 91 cities and neighborhoods over eight counties of Cook, Suburban Cook, Lake, DuPage, McHenry, Kane, Kendall and Will in the greater Chicago land.

Our staffs are recruited from the targeted population and are highly trained professionals. Our agency maintains confidentiality and respects the privacy of the participants and fully complies with rules and regulations, of State of Illinois. Our programs and services have grown consistently with our mission over the years.

Products and Services

Metropolitan Asian Family Services is a not-for-profit, community based organization established in 1993. The goal of the MAFS was to provide services to caregivers providing assistance to elderly adults, as well as grandparents over 60. Services provided through the MASF fall into five categories:

1. Information to caregivers about available services.

2. Assistance to caregivers in gaining access to supportive services.

3. Individual counseling, organization of support groups, and caregiver training to assist the caregivers in making decisions and solving problems relating to their care giving roles.

4. Respite care to enable caregivers to be temporarily relieved from their care giving responsibilities, including:
In-home respite care
Adult day service

5. Supplemental services, on a limited basis, to complement the assistance provided by caregivers, including:

Assistive technologies
Emergency response systems
Equipment/supplies
